Biosketch

Dr. O. P. Thakur completed his M.Sc with distinction in 1983 and completed his Ph.D from Bhagalpur University. He started his academic career as a Lecturer at Delhi Institute of Technology (now NSIT), University of Delhi, in 1988. He has been a professor at the institute since 2006.

At present, Dr. Thakur is the Head of the Physics Department, NSIT, Delhi. He has a teaching experience of more than 27 years and taught different courses/subjects in physics like Physics of Materials, Electrical Engineering Materials, Electronic Engineering Material, Electromagnetics, Modern Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Transmission lines & wave guides, Advanced Solid State Physics, Optics, Material Science and Statistical Mechanics etc. He is serving as reviewer in IEEE Sensors, IEEE TDEI, Intl Jour of “Materials Chemistry & Physics” (Elsevier Journal) and for proceedings of national & international conferences like ISTE/ICST. He is also working as a member of the Editorial Board in ISST Journal of Applied Physics. He is a member of Technical Programme Committee (TPC) of International Conference on Sensing Technology.

Prof. Thakur has also been a member/ advisor to various selection board/ committees at UPSC, other State Public Service Commission and the Delhi Government for the appointment of faculty members & scientists. Dr Thakur has served as a member of the Board of Governors of NSIT as the Dean, Undergraduate studies. He has taken up various academic & administrative responsibilities like establishing two Physics Labs for B.Tech students, an advanced lab namely Materials Analysis & Research Lab for Research Students. He was also the Superintendent of Theory Exam for 9 years, Centre Superintendent for 13 years and is currently the Head of Dept of Physics..

Prof Thakur has published more than 65 research papers in the Journals and in the Proceedings of conferences /book chapters (list attached). Out of nine candidates registered for PhD degree under his supervision, five candidates have been awarded PhD degree from Delhi University and currently four candidates are pursuing their PhD work. He has received the “47th Raising Day Award” for the best paper (vol-101, 1161021-23, 2007, Journal of Applied Physics, AIP publishing). He has also attended / participated in more than four dozen national/ international conferences and fifteen weeks of summer/winter schools to get exposure/ updates of the recent trends in the relevant area of Physics & Material Science. He has also been involved in curriculum development. In the last one and half decades, he is involved in the research area of electroelastic materials (dielectric/ ferroelectrics with elastic properties) and multi ferroics exhibiting electrostrictive & magnetostrictive properties, electroceramics for its sensing applications, electrical characterization of sc heterostructures and condensed matter physics.
